
Further Maths
What will I study?
Year 1
Students will study 3 A/S units consisting of Further pure 1 and Mechanics 1, and Decision 1. This will result in an A/S Further Maths qualification and is completed within 1 year.
Year 2
Students will study an additional 3 A2 units resulting in an overall A-Level in Further Maths. These are Further pure 2 and Decision 2, and Statistics 3.
What skills will I develop?
All students will develop the highest analytical thinking skills. Students will learn how to interpret, present and empower decision making via high level data analysis. Students will learn to be collaborative, resilient and curious in their approach to the highest level mathematical problems.
Exam Board: Edexcel
Assessment:
Students will sit 3 papers at the end of each year. Each paper is 90 minutes long and is out of 75 marks. Students will have the opportunity to improve A/S units at the end of the second year.
Qualification:
All pupils completing the 1 year course will obtain an A/S Further Maths qualification. If students complete the 2 year cycle they will obtain an A level in Further Maths.
Trips and enrichment opportunities:
The Maths department has strong university links and regular courses are run through Greenwich University.
Students have used virtual learning tools to access all topics via webinars.
These are across all Maths units and have proved very beneficial to all participants.
Previous students have progressed on to:
Students have gone onto the top universities to study Maths, including Cambridge, Warwick, UCL, Imperial and Durham. Many students have gone onto careers in medicine, dentistry, engineering and accountancy. We have many students that go on to become teachers and some have returned to teach at Plumstead Manor.
